The Latest News in Apparel Recycling at WVU:

Permanent Textile and Apparel Recycling Bins to be Placed at WVU
Because of the success of The A-WEAR-ness Campaign for the Homeless© over the past four years, permanent textile and apparel recycling bins are being placed on campus. The first bin is located at the Student Recreation Center. You may donate your apparel goods 365 days a year. Accepted donations include clothing, shoes, belts, purses, stuffed toys, bed linens, towels, and other textile related products. Look for the large blue bin outside the Student Recreation Center. The second bin will be placed at the Intermodal Facility sometime in November or December.

Continuing Recycling Activities
We are once again gearing up for our annual A-WEAR-ness Campaign for the Homeless ©. It is an innovative university project encouraging individuals to redirect apparel items that have lost their usefulness and provides an eco-friendly option to landfill disposal. The program promotes contributing all useable, worn, and torn apparel-related goods to a recycling process. Accepted donations include various textile and apparel related items, such as: clothing, purses, shoes, belts, stuffed animals, drapes, and bed linens.

When will this occur?
Although our permanent bins will facilitate the donation process, we will still have our larger campaign from November 2nd to December 2nd 2009 and once again as we celebrate Earth Day in 2010. During this time, a multitude of temporary donation sites will be set up throughout campus.

November 2nd to December 2nd 2009 drop sites include:

Where will my donations go?
Donations are given to a homeless shelter. The goods are sorted and classified as wearable or recyclable. Wearable garments were used to help indigent individuals and families. Items which were not viable are baled and sent to a recycling center for a reclamation process.

How many textiles have been recycled?
To date, over 82,000 pounds of textile goods have been recycled.
