Thank you for your assistance with the 2007 A-WEAR-ness Campaign for the Homeless! Your response was enthusiastic and generous. You helped in diverting textiles and apparel from the waste stream, creating a healthier ecological foundation, and providing homeless individuals with warm clothing.

Who made donations?
We received donations from various individuals and groups throughout West Virginia and Maryland.

What were the final collection results?
Because of your generosity, the Textiles, Apparel and Merchandising 230 students collected over 1,430 bags of donated apparel-related goods during the month of November.

What happened to my wearable donations?
Your apparel donations supplied homeless individuals comfortable, warm clothing. The homeless shelter staff separated the donations and identified them as wearable or non-wearable goods. Wearable goods were identified as non-professional or professional attire. Non-professional attire, or casual goods, provided homeless individuals a selection for everyday outfits. Pre-owned professional clothing found a secondary life as interview attire for homeless individuals. You helped provide clothing and shoes for everyday use and for individuals in the preparatory stages of a job search.

What happened to the non-wearable textile products?
Textiles and apparel with no practical application were recycled. You assisted in redirecting a substantial amount of textile wares into a reclamation process. All items that were not useable became part of a salvaging endeavor. The non-usable goods were sent to a recycling center for processing.
